I began putting together restaurant art-supply kits for my kids since they were old enough to hold a crayon and play with stickers. I would stash one kit in the car and the other in the stroller. It would include a variety of paper, like coloring pages and construction paper, a set of washable markers and lots of stickers. Today, with my kids ages 4 and 6, I still pack an art kit before heading out. The items have changed -- slightly -- to include mess-free Color Wonder markers and coloring pages (everyone should have these!), as well as activity books and a couple of pencils, but the idea remains the same. An art kit makes an evening out a happy and stress-free event.
