About Neige Var
Once upon a time, Neige Var was an operating room nurse and downtown dweller who leisurely spent her time dining out or entertaining friends. The birth of her son changed all that. Now she's a snap-happy suburban mom on unpaid leave with a knack for organizing play dates. Check in with Neige as she continues to adjust to her new role, her new location and her new life.
With summer here and an abundance of days off (hooray for St. Jean Baptiste Day and Canada Day!), there are plenty of reasons to host get-togethers. Back in the pre-baby days, our gatherings were all about good company, lots of food, liberal amounts of libations and festivities running into the wee hours. These days, get-togethers are little tamer and end much earlier.
What I loved about hosting was trying out new recipes and getting instant feedback from friends. Since Neelan arrived, time is tight (whose isn’t!), and I don’t always have the chance to make the dishes I want.
But summer is all about barbecuing anyway, and that’s such a time-saver. Everything can be thrown on the grill -- meats, veggies, right down to bread. And I love that there is very little clean-up, which means more time hanging out with friends.
Of course, these days, hosting takes on an added layer - entertaining little ones. Sidewalk chalk, jumbo bubble makers and the never-fail markers and paper keep the kids busy for hours, so the adults have time to kick back and chat.
I’ll definitely try to find some time to whip up some new and fabulous recipes and test them out on friends. I look forward to hopefully wowing the crowd – both big and small.
