The Mischievous Mom at the Book Launch

Last week I was talking about how my expectations of motherhood were way off base. But there's something I missed -- I always thought I'd be a more traditional mother, like my own. Instead, I find myself trying to blend my career and family, taking my kids wherever I might need to go for a sweetspot.ca review and trying to make things fun for them at the same time.
The other night I went to celebrate the launch of The Mischievous Mom at the Art Gallery, a shiny new book by our own Rebecca Eckler (who surprised me with a cheek smooch three seconds before this not very flattering candid photo was snapped) and co-written with the lovely Erica Ehm.
Gorgeously illustrated, the charming picture book tells the story of a mom with a busy life, who takes her kids along for the ride, whether they want to or not. (Sounds like a SweetMama to me!) The kids think they'll be bored, but mom has some tricks up her sleeve to make it an adventure -- something I could totally relate to (and therefore I laughed my head off on first reading).
But what I loved most was a room full of wonderful, creative, imperfect and mischievous moms raising a glass to two fabulous examples of modern motherhood, who just made bedtime reading a little more fun.
Me having a gigglefest with Maureen Dennis of Wee Welcome. My pal, blogger, playwright and photographer, Rachael McCaig, captured the mischievous side to me perfectly.

My kids nearly passed out when they saw this shot of me with Patty Sullivan of KidsCBC. Thanks for the autograph Patty! (And thanks for keeping my kids busy so I can check my email educated!)
