It seems like every time we buy a new product for our children it’s recalled soon after – or not at all when it should be.
The issue is that right now, recalls are done on a voluntary basis. The Federal government wants to put an end to that by updating consumer product safety law. The new bill, tabled last week, would give the government power to issue recalls and mandate companies to report safety-related incidents to the government.
If passed, the bill would be the first update the country’s 40-year-old consumer product safety law.
