Notes to a Fetus

lullabellycanada (Mar.08.10)

Lullabelly, $55 US. Available through Lullabelly.com.

Can music affect your unborn baby’s development and make him or her smarter? There are studies that support the claim and there are studies that crush it. So what are parents to do? Whatever they feel is right for them and for their unborn child.

Although we enjoy playing tunes while tending to our daily activities, the folks behind Lullabelly think baby ought to be up close and personal with favourite tunes, too. The fanny pack-like belt has removable speakers that top out at conversation level, a pocket to hold a portable media player (from iPod to CD player) and a dual adapter so mom can plug in a set of earphones and listen along.

Music is certainly good for a parent’s mind, body and soul, but does a fetus need a personal stereo system at home and on the go?
