Putting ‘Mom’ on Your Resume

work tipcanada (Jul.01.10)

It's a good idea to indicate on your resume that you were on a parental leave. Otherwise, potential employers may wonder why you had a one-year gap in employment. It's better to reveal that it was for your family than to have them think that you were out of work for a year. You can also make mention of it in your cover letter if you’re just completing your leave. Any employer you would be interested in working for will not be the type to hold the fact that you were a caregiver for your baby against you.
