New Rules for Maternity Leave

Reading up on maternity leave benefits tends to fall somewhere at the end of our list of things to do as we get ready for baby's arrival. But if you're a working mom, you have to get the facts. And if you're a working mom going on your second (or third...) mat leave, you have to know that the rules have changed.
Fortunately, our sister site, Today's Parent, has looked into the changes and summed them up nicely here.
What you'll learn:
- If you are self-employed, you now quality for parental leave.
- You have to register with the Canada Employment Insurance Commission a full year before receiving the benefits (talk about planned parenthood).
- You need to make a minimum of $6,000 the year before to apply for benefits.
- The weekly maximum has increased to $468, from $447.
Enjoy your time off!
