While many of us take pregnancy for granted, eating foods we normally wouldn't and enjoying larger helpings (to feed two of course), a new study says what we eat during this time can have a profound effect on whether our children will have weight issues.
According to researchers, a low-carbohydrate diet during pregnancy can alter the child's DNA, called epigenetic changes, and those changes were later found to be markers of higher body fat at ages six and nine. A mother's weight and a baby's birth weight had less influence on a child's future obesity.
