Last year, my children did an Easter egg hunt in their grandparents’ backyard. At every turn was a colorful surprise, including tons and tons of chocolate eggs and a variety of bunny-featured toys. They were in heaven -- looking in the bushes, climbing up trees, checking behind every rock – while we were left holding, well, everything.
So this year, they’ll be Easter-egg hunting in style, with a pretty Easter basket in which to carry all their chocolaty goodness. (And because the baskets were my idea, I get a share of the treats, right?)
Materials:
- Small yet sturdy shoebox, clean plastic ice-cream container or similar item
- Stickers, paper flowers, tissue paper, glitter, etc.
- Wide complementary-color ribbon
- Glue
- Sharp knife
- Newspaper
Directions:
1) Punch a hole with a sharp knife on either side of your container (we used a Chapman’s Yogurt Plus container – yum!). Thread your ribbon through the holes and tie. We made a bow with our ribbon that sits on one side of the container, but you can have it at the top, if you prefer.
2) Cover your work surface with newspaper and lay out the decorative options for your children (we glued paper flowers we found at the dollar store). Be sure every surface of the box or container is covered so the original no longer shows through.
3) Let the basket dry and get ready for the hunt!
