One of the most common mistakes I see busy mommies making is consuming too many calories through beverages. Most of us know that sodas and sugary coffee drinks are a one-way ticket to muffin-top land, but energy drinks and sports drinks seem to cause some confusion. Energy drinks are packed with sugar and can contain more caffeine than three cups of coffee! They are a definite no-no. Sports drinks, on the other hand, contain a special combination of sugar, sodium and other electrolytes (and sometimes vitamins) that are appropriate for endurance athletes. Still working on the last few pounds of baby weight? Sports drinks have no place in your diet -- a standard bottled sports drink contains 80-200 calories. Just one bottle per day can add up to a 1.5 lb weight gain each month! Save your precious calories for meals and snacks. Choose water, instead!
