It’s not always easy to know what to prioritize when it comes to health. It seems like every day a new super food is introduced or a new must-try fitness craze makes headlines. Just thinking about where to start can give us a headache – so we’re going to simplify things.
Sally Kravich, holistic nutritionist, natural health expert and author of Vibrant Living, shares her insights into what to really focus on when it comes to living a healthier life.
Drink more water
Water does more than quench our thirst. Staying hydrated flushes out toxins, ensures your cells get the oxygen they need and keeps every system in your body functioning properly. Invest in a good water filtering system and a solid reusable container that you can carry with you so there’s no excuse not to sip.
Meditate
Meditation rejuvenates the cells, organs and other systems in the body making it an essential piece of the health puzzle. Sitting quietly and breathing deeply with no distractions (focus on your breath, not tomorrow’s presentation) for 10 to 15 minutes daily also helps keep stress at bay.
Cook at home
Home-cooked meals made with fresh ingredients are healthier for you than anything you get in a box or a bag. Make cooking at home a family affair and only use the best and freshest ingredients. You’ll be healthier and happier for the time you spend nourishing yourself and your family with real food.
Get out and play
Most of us are workaholics and spend more time at the office than anywhere else. We all have to make money but it’s also important to take time to have fun. Play and laughter create balance, improve quality of life and ensures anxiety is kept to a minimum.
Take time to replenish yourself
Endless to-do lists can mean little time for anything but rushing around. But it’s important to replenish yourself in between all those responsibilities so you don’t burn out or compromise your health. Replenishment can come in the form of anything that makes you feel good – your exercise routine, a good night’s sleep, a healthy eating plan or saying no to what causes stress.
