About Rebecca Eckler

Reading a Man's Mind

locker room confidential: workout clothes canada (Feb.06.12)

Sometimes my trainer says the most ridiculous things. But it’s interesting to get a man’s point of view, no matter how ridiculous it is, especially (as it turns out) at the gym.

I’ll get right down to it: my trainer says that designer workout pants are “a blessing in disguise.” They are both a “good thing and bad thing.” Why? Well, it turns out he thinks these kind of tight pants make all women’s behinds look good, no matter what your shape, size or weight is. Until you take them off, that is.

EESH! Yes, only a man would say this, but I wonder if all men think that it's true. My trainer says he loves watching women (and their butts) at the gym, especially in Lululemons, but then when you take them off, you can see the real deal. (I don’t think any further explanation is needed.)

What I do know is that these workout pants do make my butt look good. “They hold everything in and up,” as my trainer says, “they are designed that way.”

Now, unlike my trainer, I don’t usually look at men’s butts at the gym. But, for him, and I’m assuming many others at the gym, I suppose it’s a good way to make their workout more entertaining. Ah, the power of imagination. Except, he's always wondering what’s underneath.

Personally, I’m just as likely to go to the gym in Lululemons as I am to go in sweatpants. And the thought of him wondering what my butt looks like underneath clothing kind of creeps me out. Except I know he doesn’t think of me like that. To him, tight workout pants are a game.

What do you think? Are Lululemons and other designer workout clothes made to make your behind look better? Do tell! I would love to hear a female's point of view.
