The Power Challenge: Sessions Two & Three

balancing act: power challenge update canada (Feb.23.12)

For some insane reason, Sam's allowing the trainers at the Power Institute in Toronto to kick her butt into gear. Check back each week as she chronicles her six-week program and bi-weekly sessions.

Do you want to know what I have in common with that guy?

(On a first glance, you'd probably think absolutely nothing.)

But it's come to my attention that we do have something in common. Right now, I'm at the beginning of an intense workout regimen using the Power Plate system. Apparently, this is the same technique that NFL players use to get in great shape...fast. The 2012 Super Bowl champs (the New York Giants) used power plate machines before their big win, and the list doesn't stop there.

Mark Wahlberg. Yep, he used power plates to get in shape for The Fighter. Don't believe me? Watch this video.

Some of the most beautiful women in the world use power plates. Claudia Schiffer, Elle MacPherson (did you see that woman at the Golden Globes?), Cindy Crawford and Nicole Sherzinger all train on these vibrating machines.

Which truthfully, only means one thing: I, too, will one day look like Claudia Schiffer, Elle MacPherson, Cindy Crawford and Nicole Sherzinger. All wrapped up in one body of beautiful.

I now understand why all these professional athletes and supermodels use this machine. After only three sessions, I find that I'm able to do more. My waist feels tighter and my limbs stronger.

It may be the placebo effect, but I really can't just accept that. I can't accept that I can actually do more push-ups just because I think I'm stronger. I have to actually be stronger.

I called these machines magic in my first blog post, and I'm starting to believe it to be true. I had to start doing crunches with the machine off, because the vibrations were making my brain feel like a wobbly mess, but I can only imagine what my waist would look like if I had kept it on. I might have already even had an ab (and after only three sessions!).

I'll make sure to take some pictures on Friday at my next session so you guys can all see me in action.

Until then!

Come back each week to see how the Power Challenge is going, and to find out if at any point I develop abs (because seriously, I've always wanted a six-pack, but really I'd settle for just two).
