Fall Into Fall

With fall quickly approaching (maybe more quickly than we'd like), we're looking to make a few small changes to help us get our home ready for the upcoming season. Sarah Richardson, of HGTV fame, shares her easy-to-follow tips:.
I love fall. It’s my favourite time of year. Okay, so my birthday happens to be at the end of October, but there’s more to it than just that. After the heat waves of summer and the mugginess of summer has passed, the newsstands are full of the fattest and juiciest style issues of the entire year. While fashion magazines have us dreaming of luxurious cashmere sweaters and country-style knee-high boots, it’s easy to embrace the concept of fall. So why not bring the rich warmth inside, too? There's no better fall update than a rich, cosy paint colour to bring your walls to life. Try a deep hue (try an accent wall to start), and opt for a matte finish (which will make it look deep and velvety). Orchard and Flame from my new PARA paint collection are sure to help you capture the essence of fall's most beautiful shades.
To recreate fashion trends at home, look to replace sleek, filmy textiles with heavier options. Add a nubbly wool blanket as a throw on the sofa (or a fabulous vintage plaid or Hudson’s Bay stripe to the end of the bed), replace linen cushion covers with soft cotton velvet, and fill a tray with lots of candles to help you cope with the shorter days that lie ahead. (I happily trade the long days of summer for the snuggly fireside nights of fall – they're so romantic!) No one says you need to redecorate every season, but it’s easy to make a few small stylistic changes to your basic scheme that will allow you to embrace the best part of every season.
