In Praise of a Pouf

I got an urgent tweet the other day: a friend was looking for a Moroccan pouf for CityLine and was having a hard time finding one. I came up with a few options and tweeted her back, but then she told me she needed one asap, as in right that second! Well, I’m not quite a décor miracle worker (though I suggested a store that might have them in stock), but what really bugged me is that some rather snarky shop owner had told her that they were “so last month!” Errr, excuse me? First off, how rude, and second, I didn’t get the memo that poufs – all of a sudden, mind you – are on the out list.

Bananas if you ask me, since squooshy ottomans, poufs or pouffes (whatever you might call them) are possibly the most useful piece of furniture to have around the house. They’re perfect for extra seating, nice when you want to put your feet up and light enough to carry from room to room as you need them. I’ve had a thing for traditional Moroccan-style poufs for quite a while, and think that they look extra smashing in silver or gold metallic leather. In my pouf-hunt for that friend of mine, I actually found the metallic ones at under $200 from a seller called BazaarMorocco on eBay; I’ve seen them for triple that in a few stores. They’re shipped unfilled, which cuts down on the shipping costs. Once yours has arrived, you can stuff it with old clothes (the traditional way) or head to Walmart to pick up a bag of Styrofoam beanbag beads to fill it up.
