About Arren Williams
If Arren Williams were to walk through one of those new scanners at the airport, security personnel might be surprised to see chairs, tables and lamps floating around in his head. As one of Canada’s top stylists, editors and trend reporters, he is always on the hunt for the next great find that could take a room from blah to spectacular.

Crate & Barrel Spin stool
I’ll freely admit I have no idea where the term “stool pigeon”comes from, but when I have some spare time I’ll Google it and get back to you. Anyway, it seemed like a catchy enough title for this post all about metal stools, part and parcel of the industrial influence on design that I’ve been nattering on about over the last while.
Yes, these aren’t exactly classical beauties where it comes to looks; in fact, they’re more like an ugly/beautiful combo with both charm and authenticity thrown in for good measure. All far more interesting if you ask me, and if you slide a pair of these up against the counter in your kitchen, you can bet that your nosy neighbour who lives two doors down won’t have anything anywhere near as cool to perch on and drink her first coffee of the day.
The Spin stool from Crate & Barrel is possibly my top suggestion when it comes to the best stool options on the market. For my money, I think the clean lines give it a stylish workaday simplicity, plus the seat swivels 360 degrees. And since the stools are all aluminum, they’re nice and light, too.
