The White Towel Conspiracy

design diary: colourful bathroom towels canada (Feb.16.11)

I know this probably won't win me many friends, but can I just go on record as HATING white towels? Not only are they a nightmare in the laundry department (who has time for that?), they also look pretty darned dull in a bathroom. Oh, I know, some folks still rattle on about ‘hotel chic’ but really, I don’t think we all have maid service on a daily basis, if you know what I mean. For me it’s all about colour, especially at this time of year, so why not jazz things up a bit and plunk for something a little crazy? I’m a HUGE fan of beach towels in a bathroom since they’re usually oversized, colourful and affordable, and have waaay more personality than anything in – you guessed it – plain old white.

The Lacoste Crocostripe and Crocobayadere beach towels above (found both in-store and online at The Bay) are a current fave of mine since they have such a modern, bright and preppy vibe to them, and are a luxuriously wallet friendly $27 each. But I’m always on the lookout for more fun ones to add to my collection, which to date includes ones modelled on the Hudson Bay Point Blanket, kooky off-kilter stripes in lemon yellow and lime green from Ikea and a Marc Jacobs towel that has a huge Union Jack plastered on one side and the MJ logo and his boutique address in London on the other. All of which are a smashingly witty addition to my all-white bathroom!
