About Arren Williams
If Arren Williams were to walk through one of those new scanners at the airport, security personnel might be surprised to see chairs, tables and lamps floating around in his head. As one of Canada’s top stylists, editors and trend reporters, he is always on the hunt for the next great find that could take a room from blah to spectacular.
Come On, Get Crafty
design diary: craft chic canada
(Feb.23.11)

Handmade crafts are hot stuff in interiors, since almost anything crafty can add a charmingly kooky touch to a space. Take a look at this snap of The Rug
Company’s gorgeous flatweave carpet called Blanket that could either have been inspired by a fun bit of patchwork, or perhaps an Afghan blanket crocheted by someone’s dear granny back in the ‘70s. Strange, yes, but the look totally works in a cottage chic kind of way, especially when paired with that washed out chintz slip covered chair, topped off with a delightfully fun pom-pom edged toss cushion.
Yep, it’s time to get crafty for sure and – thank heavens – help abounds in kit-form from the likes of designer Emily Peacock on Etsy. Her needlepoint kits for cushions are incredibly cool and leave you with both a lovely pillow and a great sense of accomplishment once the project is done. Or, if you’re more of an impatient soul, you could take a plain linen pillow, like the one in the picture, and trim it with handmade pom-poms made of yarn or embroidery silk scored at a craft store. And just in case you’ve forgotten your Grade 3 lesson on how to make a pom-pom, check out this YouTube video, or while you’re at the craft store hunt down a pom-pom maker (yes, they exist!).
