About Arren Williams
If Arren Williams were to walk through one of those new scanners at the airport, security personnel might be surprised to see chairs, tables and lamps floating around in his head. As one of Canada’s top stylists, editors and trend reporters, he is always on the hunt for the next great find that could take a room from blah to spectacular.

While waiting for a slew of tile samples to magically appear at Saltillo Imports the other day, I spied this display wall of marble mosaic tiles and thought, “Why on earth would you choose white subway tiles if you could get all ballsy and design-forward and choose one of these designs instead?”
Okay, I’m not entirely dissing good old subway tiles; they’re great and classic and all that jazz, but there’s soooo much more interesting stuff out there for your kitchen backsplash.
Saltillo carries both Calacatta marble (slightly warmer with larger more predominant veining) and Carrara marble (more grey with finer, feathery veining) cut into a slew of penny tiles, star patterns, herringbone (Yummers!) as well as hexagons and intricate mosaics that you might have spotted in interiors by the likes of Sarah Richardson, as well as spaces by little old me!
Yep, they’ll for sure cost you more than a subway tile, but what a glam way to make your kitchen stand out from the crowd.
