About Arren Williams
If Arren Williams were to walk through one of those new scanners at the airport, security personnel might be surprised to see chairs, tables and lamps floating around in his head. As one of Canada’s top stylists, editors and trend reporters, he is always on the hunt for the next great find that could take a room from blah to spectacular.
A Thirsty Obsession
design insider: summer straws canada
(Jun.27.11)
I seem to be having a bit of a bizarre obsession with straws. Don’t ask me why. I think it’s the fact that my new fave summer drinks are Bassano hard sodas (the Italian inspired Lemon Sanguinelli is delish and totally refreshing), and a cool straw popped straight into the bottle saves on having to wash glasses. Lazy? Maybe, but it is summer after all!
Top of my list are West Elm’s stainless steel Metal Bendy Straws. (The West Elm website says they’re out of stock, but they’re definitely still on the shelves in-store – I saw them there yesterday.) These get my vote because they’re totally washable and re-usable and play on that whole industrial design vibe.
Next, I’m loving the totally retro feel of old fashioned striped paper straws, they remind me of summertime as a kid, and being by the beach. A brand called Kikkerland – who sells to stores across Canada - makes the barbershop striped straws in red, blue and a very chic grey; while on Etsy Isakayboutique stocks them in a gazillion colours (including polka dot and stars).
Get drinking!
