Getting out of a slushy spring rut (that feels more like a cold winter layover) is easy-breezy with a snap of instant colour to help improve the home-front view from the inside out … Cold outdoor weather has kept us cooped up inside for far too long; we’re getting a little groggy. So with spring fever on our mind (although, technically, we still have a few degrees to go) it’s time to snap out of the winter hibernation mode and use these quick fixes to make life more colourful at home…

Fix: Cabin fever. When it feels as though the same old, same old boring walls are closing in on us (with their blasé pattern-less tones), they probably are. Change your inner view with an interior design risk that works and demands attention.
Silvergate damask wallpaper in 820; $280; Farrow & Ball; www.farrow-ball.com; 1-877-363-1040.

Fix: A cocktail. Be it winter or spring, there’s an anytime-of-year cure (and for us, anytime-of-day cure) for the ho-hum blahs: Cocktail hour. Quench your thirst for a little excitement with Kelly green tumblers (filled to the brim, of course).
Pantiago tumblers; $3; Pier 1; www.pier1.com; 1-800-245-4595.

Fix: A cold bed. For any bedroom (action-packed or otherwise), a mere hint of a hue is like a peck on the cheek; never enough. Jump-start your boudoir basics (whatever they may be) with bedding in bold paisley patterns...they even look good rumpled.
Kings Paisley bedding by Revman; $49.99; Linens-n-Things; www.lnt.com.

Fix: No time for spring break. We may not be able to fly to Ibiza and back by Monday (and since we used up our vacation time catching up on daytime television), so we’ll have to fake a tropical holiday at home. This ocean-blue lamp brings the waters to us, almost making us believe we can feel the sand between our toes.
Gourd lamp by Robert Abbey; $225; www.robertabbey.com.

Fix: Mold and mildew. Freshen up your weekly clean with décor accessories worthy of our favourite mop-wielding Brits, Aggie MacKenzie and Kim Woodburn. This multi-toned shower curtain will put a new zing in your morning step and a zap in your sparkling clean bathroom.
Punch shower curtain; $29.99; Linens-n-Things.

Fix: Winter white-outs. Chilling flurries and blinding blizzards have made us frost-i-phobic (we get shivers spying snow-coloured walls). Shades of bright blue and grassy green paint bring clear skies with a garden-esque nature indoors while there’s still ice outside.
Split Pea and Blue Lake paints; $40- $52 per gallon; Benjamin Moore; store locator online at www.benjaminmoore.ca; 1-800-361-5898.

Fix: Paper pile-up. Bills, invoices and long-lost love letters are important to hang onto, even if you don’t feel like dealing in the immediate. Procrastinate with style: Pile to-do-later papers under a pretty and weighty glass globe until the last snow has melted (out of sight, out of mind!).
MATKA globes; $7.99; Ikea; www.ikea.ca.
