About Chantel Simmons
Some girls dream of walk-in shoe closets. Chantel dreams of walk-in craft closets. A former crafter for HGTV, Chantel's now sharing her project plans with you. Check back every Friday as she offers up an easy-to-make or easy-to-bake craft you can give to a friend or keep for yourself.
I love baking cupcakes, so I was super excited last week when one of my girlfriends presented me with the Snap ’n Stack Cookie & Cupcake Carrier (which holds 36 cupcakes or six rows of cookies, and is available at Costco for $19).
After testing out my new favourite travel accessory, I decided to make a cupcake magnet to slip in with my thank-you note to my friend. It’s so simple to make, and is a guilt-free way to sweeten up your kitchen!
What you’ll need:

Two sheets of felt in the colours of your choice
Glue gun
1 small button
3-4 sparkly beads
Sewing scissors
Needle and thread
1-2 strips of thin fabric ribbon
1 magnet
Directions: Using one sheet of felt, cut out the base of the cupcake. Using a second, complementary colour of felt, cut out two identical pieces to form the top of the cupcake. Slip the base of the cupcake between the two “tops” and keep in place with a line of glue. Glue ribbon to base of cupcake. Thread the needle and stitch around the edges of the cupcake to secure in place. Sew or glue the “cherry” button to the top of the cupcake. Glue 3-4 beads to create “sprinkles”. Finally, turn the cupcake over and glue the magnet to the back. Stick on your fridge and enjoy!
Tip: I like to reuse the free marketing magnets I get in the mail (pizza, real estate, etc) – they’re nice and big, so your cupcake magnet can actually hold up items, not just look pretty!
