About Chantel Simmons
Some girls dream of walk-in shoe closets. Chantel dreams of walk-in craft closets. A former crafter for HGTV, Chantel's now sharing her project plans with you. Check back every Friday as she offers up an easy-to-make or easy-to-bake craft you can give to a friend or keep for yourself.
I don't keep a fully stocked fridge, so it's rare when someone comes over that I can offer them anything other than a cup of tea. And what goes perfectly with tea? Cookies or cupcakes -- and this easy make-it project includes both!
What You'll Need
1 batch of cupcakes (from scratch or from a box -- I'm not going to judge)
1 recipe for icing (or tub of French Vanilla icing)
Yellow food colouring
Oreo cookies
Icing bag and leaf tip
Directions
1. Place a dab of icing on the middle of the cupcake, then put an Oreo cookie on top.
2. Using the leaf tip attached to your icing bag, pipe leaves starting at the outside of the cupcake and working in a circular motion until you reach the edge of the Oreo.
Tip: My friend -- a new mom, without a lot of time on her hands but who still wants to be the perfect hostess she is -- gave me this tip for being prepared for unexpected guests. Bake a batch of cupcakes and freeze them. When friends stop by, take out a few cupcakes and while they thaw, whip up (or buy!) some icing and top the mini-cakes.
