About Chantel Simmons
Some girls dream of walk-in shoe closets. Chantel dreams of walk-in craft closets. A former crafter for HGTV, Chantel's now sharing her project plans with you. Check back every Friday as she offers up an easy-to-make or easy-to-bake craft you can give to a friend or keep for yourself.
Guest blogging for Chantel this week is SweetHome Editor, Sarah Rogers.
This week my favourite crafter skipped town leaving me holding the bag for a Halloween project. Lacking in craft skills since I graduated from cut and paste in grade 3, I decided to fall back on something that's a little more my forte. To the kitchen we go...
Originally I planned to share some creepy cocktail garnish ideas (check out these Halloween drinks) but then I visited my local Longo's (best. grocery.store. ever.) and picked up the latest issue of their in-store magazine, Experience. They had a three page spread on ghoulish Halloween desserts and I knew I just had to share (especially with those of you living outside Ontario who miss out on the Longo's goodness - so sad).
Make these treats in a flash and impress your guests, or take them to a party and show up the host (er, they'll make the perfect hostess gift).
Ghoulish Cupcakes
Have fun this Halloween with these “scary” cupcakes. They are firm and cake like, great for decorating. A rich buttery icing can be tinted and played with for fun designs. Let the inner child in you come out or better yet, have a child join you in the kitchen and be creative.
Time Saving Tip: Skip making the cupcakes and icing from scratch and use a mix instead. This will give you more time to get into your costume.
Ghost Meringues
Scary little puffs of sweet meringue can be enjoyed on their own or with fresh fruit and ice cream for a fun little dessert. Add them to the top of a cupcake for a crunchy treat and let the inside melt on your tongue.
Time Saving Tip: Buy meringue cookies from your favourite bakery and then decorate and go.
Candy Corn Shortbread
This recipe is perfect to send to school for the class or to the office for Halloween parties. Simple shortbread takes the shape of candy corn to celebrate the sweet treats of the evening.
Time Saving Tip: Hmm. Nope, I think you have to make this one yourself. Luckily shortbread is super easy to make, so you can do it!
