About Chantel Simmons
Some girls dream of walk-in shoe closets. Chantel dreams of walk-in craft closets. A former crafter for HGTV, Chantel's now sharing her project plans with you. Check back every Friday as she offers up an easy-to-make or easy-to-bake craft you can give to a friend or keep for yourself.
Chantel’s assistant Claudia shows us how to swap real flowers for paper-bouquet beauties.
Centrepieces made of real, fresh flowers are beautiful, but it’s always sad to see them go. Tissue-paper blooms, on the other hand, last forever and cost next-to-nothing. Enjoy your favourite flowers year-round with a DIY bouquet.
What you’ll need:
Colourful tissue paper
Thin floral wire
Styrofoam ball (the bigger the ball, the larger the arrangement)
Push pins
Scissors
Vases or flower pots
Directions:
- Cut tissue paper into four 10” x 5” pieces and stack on top of each other.
- Fold the stack accordion-style (each fold should measure approximately 3/8”).
- Tie wire in the center of the paper once it’s folded.
- Using scissors, cut the ends of the paper (either round or pointy, depending on the look you want. We used round).
- Gently peel back each piece of paper, fanning out all the layers and leaving the bottom flat.
- Pin the flowers onto the Styrofoam ball, leaving an empty space to rest the ball in the vase. Alternatively, you can cover the ball completely and hang it from a string. To create a pretty garland, use smaller balls.
Tip: These make a great finishing touch for wrapped presents (instead of a bow). You can also fan out all the layers and creating single round flowers, a lovely addition to any table setting.
