We are ready to welcome fall, but aren’t sure how to change our indoor décor to reflect the change in the season. Any ideas?
It's the last chance to spruce up the front door and enhance curb appeal. If your entrance is looking tired, treat your front door to a new coat of paint. My favourites include Black Satin, a soft and smoky black, ideal for sleek townhouses and Bainbridge Blue, ideal for homes with country charm.
Add a sophisticated and oversized door knocker to complete the transformation. Replace a worn welcome mat with a fresh version, and opt for the largest possible size to create a more gracious statement. Flank the freshly painted front door with a pair of handsome urns perhaps potted with cone shaped evergreens for lasting appeal.
When it comes to interiors, the rules for our homes are similar to the rules for our body. Cooler weather begs for warm layers so add a throw and additional toss cushions to living and family room settings. Opt for pattern and rich colour to turn up the warmth.
As attention naturally turns to the fireplace, make sure it looks its best. Place a large, stylish basket filled with logs beside the hearth, add a handsome fire screen and fire tools. If it's time for a new coat of paint, opt for a fresh neutral that is lighter than walls which will make the mantel stand out. If there is an adjacent window, place a large mirror above the mantel. If not, opt for a painting and flank the artwork with a pair of sconces to create a more dramatic focal point in the evening.
