ask an expert: incorporating trendscanada
(Jul.20.10)

I want to incorporate some new décor trends into my outdoor space without doing a total overhaul. What are some easy ways to stay on trend without spending a fortune?

Treat your outdoor space as an extension of your home and as an extension of your living and entertaining spaces. A great way to touch up your outdoor living area is to add in a few inexpensive accessories to make your space warmer and more functional. Stainless steel torches in the garden or around the pool add ambience, while Moroccan or stainless steel lanterns look great on the deck. An outdoor rug or large umbrella can help to define your space and add some style.
Another simple tip to update your space is to freshen it up with new cushions. We've been seeing our residential clients picking up colour trends from boutique hotels. Greys, slates, blacks and whites are all popular this year. New cushions will help to make your existing space feel modern.
Going for a vintage-chic look is an easy way to transform your space on a budget. Repurpose old furniture by painting or staining it to match your space. It creates a personalized statement that is fresh and casual. (This also creates the ideal opportunity to use your new cushions.)
By adding new cushions to existing furniture and mixing in some unique refurbished pieces with crisp and clean accessories, you can reinvent your outdoor space for the coming season without doing a full overhaul.
