Summer Storage

Because I live in a small space, I need to store my summer clothing during the winter. What's the best way to pack it up?

Summer is sadly coming to an end, and for many of us that means storing our bed linens and cotton and bringing out the cashmere! Storing clothing, whether for summer or winter, is not complicated and the same rules apply to both.
- Most importantly, the clothing and bed linens MUST be clean or they will attract moths (and other insects).
- Store your clothing/bed linens in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in a garment bag. If you use plastic containers, line them with tissue or cotton (an old pillow case would work, too).
- I like to use lavender sachets (as opposed to cedar) to keep moths away. You can buy lavender at any bulk store; make your sachet with a square of linen tied with ribbon.
- This is a good time to get rid of pieces you don't (and won’t) wear, as well as items that have been laundered but are looking a bit dull after a season or two, especially those white shirts that just aren’t that white anymore.
- If you have children who have outgrown their clothes, this is the perfect opportunity to make a donation or hand-me-down pile while you're sorting.
