About Gabrielle Johnson
When shopping finally becomes an Olympic event, editor Gabrielle Johnson is pretty sure she’ll take home the gold medal for Canada – after inquiring about the availability of other colours (lilac? chartreuse?) and politely requesting a discount. Every week, she shares a glimpse into what’s on her style radar.
June Editor's Picks

(Jun.29.10)
It's often said that the older you get, the faster time passes by. That's never more true than in the summertime: we wait all year long for the sunny months to arrive, but once they do, they're gone again in the blink of an eye. That's why I'm determined to make the most of this summer and soak up every hot, hazy minute of it. Here are a few seasonal stories you might have missed in June:

Dive In
To me, the essence of summer is dining alfresco. Meals enjoyed outside somehow taste so much better, whether it's a spontaneous picnic in the park or a backyard barbecue with friends. Our pool party menu is filled with simple, fresh dishes that are meant to be eaten under the sun, like this decadent recipe for Grilled Mangoes with Ice Cream and Homemade Strawberry Sauce.

Get Fresh
What goes well with dining outside? Drinking outside, of course. No garden party would be complete without a couple of deliciously refreshing cocktails — and we've got six to choose from. My favourite is The Northern Lights. What's your pick?

Get Reel
I love going to the movies, but I can rarely bring myself to do so in the summertime. Why spend an evening shivering in an air-conditioned theatre when I could be outside? An outdoor movie night really is the best of both worlds; add some roasted marshmallows and it comes pretty close to perfection.

Botanical Mythbusters
Someday I hope to have my own peony-filled garden, but until then I'll content myself with buying gorgeous bouquets for my living room. Thanks to our Test Lab on flower preservation, I'm making my blooms last even longer.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
Okay, I know I've been extolling the virtues of the great outdoors, but there's something deliciously indulgent about ignoring the perfect weather and taking a long afternoon nap. Our bedding picks will help you create the ultimate summer snoozing environment, because if you're going to do it, do it right.
