Hello! My name is Janette Ewen and I’m a lifestyle expert. I currently work on Cityline but in the past I have worked as a style editor for many magazines including Chatelaine, Chocolat and House & Home.
Starting today, every Wednesday I’ll be bringing you exciting, fun and inexpensive ideas on how to live a sweet life. From decorating and DIY, to entertaining and shopping, I plan to give you a backstage pass to all things stylish and fabulous.

Luxe DIY
I recently re-covered these chairs in Marimekko fabric I picked up from the Marimekko Store in Vancouver. I sprayed the chairs a gloss black first so they match the sophisticated print.

Wallpaper on the Ceiling
I love this look! I used Cole and Sons hand-blocked wallpaper to take a simple black and white room from ordinary to extraordinary. I think this look has real staying power.

Colour in your Workspace
Your working area, at home or in the office, need not be boring. Here is a picture of my at-home office space. I used coloured storage boxes and magazine files from Semikolon to brighten an otherwise drab space. I think every room in the home has a right to be fabulous!

Make-a-Statement Furniture
Furniture designed by Philippe Starck for the Le Meurice hotel in Paris. I think this picture says it all – wow! What a chair. This hotel is full of the most amazing décor I have ever seen. It’s a bit of surrealism meets Parisian chic!

Ugly Dolls as Art
Yes, I Iove Ugly Dolls. It’s something about their sweet little vacant stares. They’re the perfect whimsical accessories for eclectic interiors (even without kids). This image is a shot of my Ugly Doll that my beau, a photographer, took for me. I blew it up and displayed it in the 2009 Dream Home. Everyone loved it, proving sometimes if something looks right and makes you smile there is no better place for it than in your home.
