Spice Up Your Salad with a Tortilla Bowl
home slice: taco bowl canada
(Jan.17.12)

Mid-January is traditionally the time that I shed my resolutions and shimmy back into my normal way of life. This year, I'm proud to say that I'm still on the bandwagon, forking my way through many a salad and huffing my way through many a workout.
One of my perpetual diet downfalls is the siren's song of tortilla chips. That irresistible combo of crunch, salt and fat is a vice I just don't want to quit — January diet or no.
So when the mood strikes, I bake up one of these tortilla bowls. They spice up my salads without totally 86-ing my diet goals. Best of all, they're incredibly easy to make, so whipping one up is easier than running to the store to score some not-so-good-for-me chips.
Here's how you do it:
1. Heat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Place a clean glass or ceramic bowl (that's around the size of your tortilla) upside down on a cookie sheet. Spray it with cooking spray.
3. Spray your tortilla with a very light coating of cooking spray, and then drape it over the bowl, folding and pressing down the edges as you go.
4. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the tortilla begins to brown.
5. Remove from the oven and let cool. Gently remove the tortilla from the bowl, and it fill it with whatever you choose. Enjoy!
