For me April and May are very busy birthday months. If my math is right (and I hope it is or someone’s going to be very disappointed), I have nine wonderful people to celebrate in the coming weeks. Not only does this mean I’ll be spending even more time on Sweetspot looking for gift ideas but also in my kitchen baking.
So to get ready I’ve been doing some Internet-based research to make sure I have everything I need and I thought I’d share some of my fun finds.

This Happy Birthday mould would be an easy way to transform a simple and traditional cake. (Birthday Cake Mould, US$35, Generate Design).

Both my husband and I can appreciate this pan, it allows us to have a piece of cake that’s just right. (S-XL Cake Mould, US$36, Charles & Marie)

A sweet alternative to cupcakes, these cakelets are so pretty you could even skip decorating all together. (Gift Cakelet Pan, US$36, Williams Sonoma)
As for recipes, I barely need an excuse to make this Devil’s Food Cake with Fluffy White Icing. I’m also tempted by this recipe for Pecan Spice Layer Cake from Gourmet magazine and this one for Apricot Coconut Cake from Real Simple.
While I don’t think I can commit to nine cakes, I’m sure I will volunteer my amateur efforts for least one or two. If they turn out I’ll be sure to show you. Keep your fingers crossed.
