A Game-Changing Thermostat from Ex-Apple Designers

the find: nest learning thermostatcanada (Oct.31.11)

Bless the humble thermostat. It works hard to keep us comfortable, our house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. But other than the occasional push of a button or sweep of a duster, it doesn't really get the respect it deserves.

Until now, that is. Because ever since ex-Apple employees Matt Rogers and Tony Fadell formed Nest Labs and dreamed up the Nest Learning Thermostat, the lowly thermostat has gotten smarter, prettier and more environmentally friendly.

The simplicity of its design reflects how easy it is to use. With a bright, large face and easy-to-use dial, it's the perfect solution for people that might want to save their button mashing for the remote control rather than their home heating.

But the coolest part of this (already cool) gadget is that it learns from how you use it and ultimately programs itself. Which means that even though it looks so nice we want to play with it all day long, we won't have to, and we'll be saving money and energy to boot.

The Nest Learning Thermostat is US $249 and available mid-November, but you can reserve one now.
