Until a few weeks ago, most of Laurier Avenue’s fashionable shops were relegated to the area west of St-Laurent. But hearing about a new arrival’s funky blend of decorative accessories and lifestyle charm brought Laurier East to the fore – and our feet were up to the challenge.
We instantly felt at home at Buk & Nola amid the beautiful brick walls and hardwood floors, browsing a wide range of stylized, graphic homewares placed strategically throughout the space. The high-impact wall of pillows ($34-$92) immediately captured our attention: Cotton and silk fabrics adorned with historical, floral and vegetation-themed graphics (even a Union Jack motif is available).
The organic-print theme spilled over into charming tea towels ($18) as well as handy 4-pack notebook sets ($28). Dotting the eye line in glass jars were elegant scented candles ($28) including Chai Tea Masala, White Tea & Thyme, and Vanilla Tobacco fragrances. What really topped off the designer-feel were the beautifully displayed Montreal-based Tilly Doro vintage bracelets, earrings and necklaces ($30-$60).
Buk & Nola can be credited for extending the hip factor all the way over to the proverbial “East Side,” and we’ve never been more willing to go the extra distance.
