Testing Natural Food Preservatives

test lab: natural food preservativescanada (Sep.05.11)

The inspiration: Did you ever see that flickr gallery of the hamburger that refused to decompose after 200 days? We're all about getting the most out of our groceries, but that was just plain creepy. Instead of injecting our food with whatever mysterious substance was in that burger, we're testing natural preservatives on some of our favourite snacks.

The foods & their preservatives:

  • Mushrooms wrapped in paper towel to avoid slime
  • Celery and carrots in cold water to keep them crisp
  • Avocado pit in guacamole to keep it green
  • Lemon juice on fruit salad to keep it fresh
