Tray Chic for Mother's Day
handmade with style: refinished tray canada
(May.06.11)
Are you ready to turn a plain boring tray into something fun and stylish? All it takes is some paint, patterned paper and glue. In less than an hour, you’ll have a brand new tray perfect for serving up a Mother's Day breakfast to remember.
What you’ll need:
- Wood tray
- Spray paint
- Patterned/coloured paper (I decided to use a combination of a patterned paper and a solid coloured paper)
- Mod Podge
- Foam brush
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- A credit card or a firm piece of cardboard
Directions:
1. Using light even strokes, coat wood tray with the spray paint. Allow to dry and repeat.
2. Measure the inside of the tray; using the measurements, cut paper to size.
3. To add some detail to the solid coloured paper, I sewed two straight lines down the edge of the paper. (Skip this step if you prefer not to use a sewing machine.)
4. Working in small areas, apply Mod Podge using the foam brush to the inside of the tray and lay down paper. Smooth out all the bubbles with the credit card or piece of cardboard. Set aside to dry for 15-20 minutes.
5. Apply a light coat of Mod Podge on top of the paper and set aside to dry for 15 minutes. Repeat two more times.
