Upcycle a Sweater into a Chic Christmas Stocking
handmade with style: diy sweater stocking canada
(Dec.09.11)

I made my very own customized stocking using a recycled sweater and some yarn. This is a great project for anyone to do, including the kids!
You’ll Need:
An old sweater without buttons or pockets– wash and tumble dry first
Yarn – a colour that contrasts with your sweater will look best
Needle with large loop
Scissors
Chalk
Directions:
- Use the chalk to draw out a stocking shape on the sweater. You can use an existing stocking you may have as a template. Cut out the shape.
- Flip the stocking shape over so that the wrong side is up and trace the shape onto the back of the sweater. Cut out the second shape.
- Place the two shape pieces together with the wrong sides facing inwards.
- Thread the yarn in to the large needle and make a blanket stitch all the way around the stocking attaching the two pieces together. Leave the top of the stocking open. Finish off with a knot.
*Blanket stitch: When the yarn passes under itself on each stitch.
