Lucid and Loving It

sarah's space canada (Sep.08.09)

OK. The long weekend is over. It’s time to face facts. The summer is over and it’s time to say goodbye to mojitos, my staple warm-weather cocktail. It makes me sad but something tells me taste testing my way to a new fall favourite won’t be so bad.

I’m thinking about spiked coffee and hot chocolate (Baileys, I love you) on crisp afternoons. I can almost taste spicy mulled wine and hot apple cider with rum. Not to mention, less saucey sips such as herbal teas with honey and frothy vanilla lattes. Is there anything nicer than warming up with a hot drink on a cool autumn afternoon?

Of course, thinking like this also lets me indulge in my latest obsession, clear glass mugs. They might be boring to some but I’m drawn to their simplicity and I love how just the right shape can turn such a humble object into a thing of beauty to me.

I just can’t resist them. In fact, I’m thinking of clearing some cupboard space for some of these borosilicate* beauties below.

Sweet Steal

Double-walled glass and no handles means this mug is also the perfect hand warmer.

Bodum Pavina Glasses (set of 2), $25. Available at www.davidstea.com.

Border Crossing

I’ve been obsessed with these glasses since the moment I laid eyes on them. Love the off centre handle.

Coffee Glasses (set of 6), US$60. Available at www.dwr.com.

Canadian Design Find

I have been admiring Molo’s float designs from afar for years now. Their tea lantern is also a thing of beauty.

Matcha Bowl, $110. Available at www.molodesign.com.

*Borosilicate is a type of glass that is light and highly heat-resistant.

Anyone out there have a mug obsession like me? I need your help to justify a purge and splurge. Or what about a suggestion for go to fall cocktail? Just the right cocktail could be cause for new glassware, I think. Leave a comment below. Thanks in advance for your help!
