I've just returned from a heavenly long weekend in the Adirondack Mountains. I had the good fortune of being invited to Lake Placid to take in the beautiful scenery and to enjoy the excellent local hospitality, neither of which disappointed.
Frankly, I just don't think the Northeastern states get the props they deserve for all they have to offer vacationers. Hopefully you're signed up for Sweetspot's travel newsletter so that you can find out what I mean and why I heart Lake Placid. In the meantime, without giving too much away, I can't resist sharing a little taste of what made my weekend so special.
Normally a fan of sleek, modern and minimalist over eclectic, earthy and rustic, my stay at Whiteface Lodge may just sway me to the cozier side of style. Stone fireplaces, weathered leather and natural wood defined the Lodge's décor, and I felt as comfortable curling up in the lounges and nooks found throughout the resort as I did in my own room. Add to this serene mountain and woods views out every window and I found myself wondering how I could ever return to the concrete city.
My absolute favourite accents had to be the antler chandeliers the hotel had hanging both inside and out. Not a new trend, I know, but one I hadn't fully appreciated until my visit to Whiteface Lodge. Here are some pictures of the fixtures I'm so fond of found in and around the resort.

Perhaps just a post-vacation phase (or my repressed rural roots coming out) but returning home to my downtown condo has left me feeling wistful for greener pastures, literally. I never thought I would be able to give up all the conveniences of city life but after a weekend of fresh air, starry skies and laidback living I think I might just be loosening my grip.
