Tonight at midnight Earth Day will officially arrive, so to celebrate I thought I’d share a few of my favourite eco-friendly finds.

Pure Sleep
If bamboo’s antibacterial and hypoallergenic properties don’t get you, then its sustainability and softness will.
Pure Bamboo Bed Sheets, $135 (Queen). Available for purchase at www.greenorganic.ca.

I am Not a Paper Towel
I love the messaging on this 100% organic tea towel.
I am Not a Paper Towel Kitchen Towel Set, US$20. Available for purchase at www.uncommongoods.com.

Sparkling Solution
I can’t give up my sparkling water obsession but I could definitely say bye-bye to the bottles.
On my reading list at the moment are Prefab Green by Michelle Kaufmann (Gibbs Smith Publishers 2009) and Grow Organic (Dorling Kindersley Limited 2008). While I am a mere condo dweller at present, some day I hope to call myself a homeowner and both of these books are inspiring me to take my life off the grid (or at least to make changes where I can).
Beyond trying to shop smarter, I want to eat better, too. That’s right. I’m talking about getting on the local food bandwagon. Living near the
St. Lawrence Market, I there’s no excuse for lazy grocery shopping. This summer I hope to get to know some of the local farmers so I can better understand what I’m eating and where it’s come from.
I’m challenging myself to make greener choices wherever and whenever I can in my everyday life. While I do think special occasions like Earth Day and Earth Hour are great reminders, the fact is we all need to be living more responsibly year round if we really want to preserve our planet.
