Is Buying in Bulk Really Cheaper?

We always thought that buying in bulk was the most cost-efficient way to stock up on flour, nuts and baking goods (you have to be saving on all those packaging costs, right?).

But a recent side-by-side comparison of our grocery store buys at Loblaws and our purchases at the Bulk Barn showed us that buying in bulk isn't always the cheaper option.

In fact for many goods, buying in bulk was actually equal in price to regular packaged items — and in some cases, significantly more expensive.
