Stick It To Me

There’s nothing wrong with meat and potatoes, but sometimes we crave a meal that’s a little more exotic.
Now that Persian dining has arrived in Hogtown, we’re getting that meat cooked on a stick.
The House of Kabob specializes in – you guessed it – kabobs (plus other delights from modern day Iran). Serving more than a dozen different kinds, we’d never heard of most of them. Nor could we pronounce them. But, boy, do we like the way they taste. Made with delectably seasoned chicken, beef and lamb, they are flame-broiled to perfection.
We give especially high marks to the Jujeh kabob ($11.95), the kabob kubideh ($9.95) and chicken souvlaki ($9.95). The accompanying pitas are fresh, and all of the portions are large (and we didn’t leave a single, delicious bite).
There are a few non-kabob options like traditional Persian stews ($9.95), salads and dips like hummus and Mast O. Musir (that’s yogurt with shallots). If you’re feeling brave, try the yogurt soda ($1.80) – an interesting mix of yogurt and salt.
Set in renovated bungalow, the House of Kabob is a simple, low frills place, but as kabobs go, they don’t get any better than this. (And if you’d prefer the fancy décor of your own dining room, enjoy 20% off on all take out orders as part of their grand opening special.)
