Good things come in small packages (case in point: jewellery, tweets and those mini doughnuts we can’t resist at Stampede).
With this month’s rollout of tiny restaurant Petite, we’re adding another one to our list.
Already causing a big stir among local foodies, this 30-seat eatery—run by a quartet of chefs and sommeliers—specializes in modern European cuisine with an emphasis on fresh and seasonal items and an often changing menu.
We popped into this cozy (but not cramped) spot last Friday afternoon and, even at 5pm, the place was already full. We kicked off our meal with the Spring Pea Soup ($9), a delicious summery puree topped with chunks of seared scallops and smoked bacon. We followed up with a salad of creamy goat’s cheese over roasted beets ($13) and a main course of grilled halibut on a bed of gnocchi and mushrooms ($23).
The century-old factory building sets the perfect stage for brocade chairs and dark tables, expertly offsetting the exposed brick walls and ancient hardwood floors.
We’ll be vying for a spot on the little garden veranda for the rest of summer, which also means a few more lucky folks can check out this tiny wonder.
Which is no small feat.
