You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.
And how sweet it is when it comes back (welcome home, 1980s, Melrose Place and Mickey Rourke).
Thanks to the return of Portobello West Calgary, we don’t need to look further than our own backyard to adorn ourselves or our homes. The truly local fashion and art market features more than 80 designers from Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver showcasing their unique pieces.
Included in the mix are designs by Christy Clayton (Project Runway Canada), whose bold and colourful designs for Carny Love will be adding some much-needed summer sizzle to our wardrobe (even if Calgary’s unpredictable weather leaves us less than beach-inspired).
Seeing as our walls also need some rescue, we’re especially excited to see the edgy, contemporary and one-of-a-kind wall pieces by Alberta’s own Salted Studio. Industrial designer Julie Witten-Land has mounted close-up, colourful photographs of old cars on rusted steel box bases in her Jalopy Collection (also known as the soon-to-be-in-our-living-room collection).
We’ll have access to all these incredible local goodies for a low admission price of $5. Which means we might need to go back on May 8, 9 and 10. (Welcome home, excuse to shop all weekend long.)
