Places to Satisfy a Sweet Tooth

It’s not vogue. It’s not encouraged. It’s not even particularly healthy. But we’ve all faced that familiar crossroads when our sweet tooth beckons for a taste of sugary goodness. Some prohibit their sweet tooth from speaking too loudly, and bury its incessant pleas. But us girls at Sweetspot know better than to work within the realms of our own denial—the voice will only get stronger. So go ahead and indulge with this week’s Best Of places to satisfy your sweet tooth list.

  1. Best chocolate: Bernard Callebaut

    From delicate marzipan to the other-worldly coffee cream, we can spend hours just choosing the appropriate chocolate to appease our craving. There is one drawback to visiting one of Mr. Callebaut’s chocolateries however—you can never have just one. ($12.75 per 100 grams)

    Light chocolate mousse whipped with amaretto is part of this dessert torte aptly named Chocolate Sin. Bless us, for we have sinned multiple times. ($4.95 per slice)

    Forget the roses—gourmet (and everyday) candies are arranged together in one sweet tooth of a bouquet. From silly Fun Dips to imported Italian hard candy, there is a flavour, style and size for all candy aficionados. (Candy bouquets start at $20)

  4. Best cheesecake: The Cheesecake Café

    The flavour choices here are endless, but we suggest the delectable pairing of raspberries and peaches, intertwined with a perfectly whipped cream cheese and crust. ($5.95 per slice) How divine.

  5. Best post-dinner dessert: Joey Tomatoes Mediterranean Grill
    208 Barclay Parade S.W.; 403-263-6336
    Don’t let the name scare you, for as rich as this dessert sounds (and it is), just one spoonful of the Molton Chocolate Lava Soufflé will settle your sweet tooth’s hunger for weeks. (Okay, maybe just days.) Dark chocolate cake is filled with a hot melted chocolate centre and served with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry puree. Enjoy! ($6.99)
