Schluzkrapfen Dreams
cool & collected in calgary: wurst's new menu Calgary, canada
(Feb.01.12)

Since it opened back in June, I've made a few stops at Wurst, the Bavarian-inspired restaurant and beer hall in Mission. A couple of times, I even broke my cardinal going-out rule—never wait in line to get into a bar—and, gasp! stood in line to get into the downstairs beer hall. It's really fun down there and the place is always packed every weekend.
But, as many patrons I hear, I often forget that there is a whole other world upstairs that's a bit less about beer (a bit less, I said, not entirely) and more about the food.
Next week, the restaurant is launching a new menu and I was lucky enough to sample a few new dishes. Known for its hearty fare, Wurst will expand its lighter menu with a few more salads and options for those customers that aren't necessarily over-the-moon about a "Pile of Bratwurst." (Side note: how do you romance that dish if you're a server?)
But fret not meat-heads, the classics, like the Jager Schnitzel will remain and dishes such as braised rabbit and a variety of different sausages will be added to the already meaty menu.
And now, can we please discuss the "Schluzkrapen" I referred to in my headline. Sadly, I don't have a photo as I devoured the Alpine cheese ravioli with Chanterelle mushrooms, parsnip puree and jus faster than you can say Prost! The parsnip puree was especially a hit among the media diners. And just to be clear, there are many delicious draft beers on tap upstairs as well. And here's a bonus: if you come for dinner upstairs first, you can go downstairs post-meal without having to stand in line.
