Hits the (Eco) Spot
100% organicMontreal
(Jun.13.08)
We’re officially eco-friendly. From the clothes we wear to the food we eat, we try to do what’s best for the planet.
And we’ve recently made our eco-efforts easier (and a whole lot tastier) with the discovery of Stew Stop.
Nestled in Old Montreal, this bamboo-furbished restaurant boasts 100% organic home-style cooking. Gluten, dairy and nut-free, this is cuisine prepared with the diner’s best interests at heart…including keeping the palate utterly satisfied. Even the wines are organic and biodynamic, and the difference is palpable.
The hummus trio ($7) with crispy nachos tingled our taste buds with the freshness of its flavour combos (lemon sage, curry turmeric and chipotle cumin). Moving onto mains, the veggie loaf Provençal with cilantro pesto panini ($12), plus salad and grilled veggies, was fragrant and fantastic. The succulent lemon braised pork stew ($13) came with choice of pasta, quinoa or rice. For dessert ($4.50), carrot cake iced with millet-orange glaze was super moist and rich. And the brownies? Not a crumb left behind.
Their sauces, condiments and meals are also sold to savour chez nous. And with a set menu for 6 or more offered at a mere $30 a head, we predict plenty of future stops to sample these hearty (and healthy) stews.
