French bistros keep our appetites sated (the standard baguette, cheese and onion soup combination never fails to please), but a little change never hurts. So we were delighted to discover that the conventional bistro concept has been reinvented and tucked away among charming terraced cottages in the Plateau.
With Monsieur B’s 11-table capacity and herb-laden delicacies guaranteed to please, good things definitely come in small packages. Lightly toned walls and soft rhythmic beats set the tone for the evening, creating a comfortable, intimate setting.
Diverting our attention from the Plateau-themed photography adorning the walls, the perfectly presented Crab Cake and Celery with Peppered Mayo ($10) and the ultra-tangy Raw Vegetables with Goat Cheese Vinaigrette in a Corn Pastry Shell ($8) were standouts. Only surpassed by the excellent service, the Lamb Shank Risotto with Fried Goat Cheese and Green Peas ($24) and the Contre-Filet of Black Angus Beef with Bacon Puréed Potatoes ($30) nearly had us singing the French National Anthem with abandon.
A dash of innovation is what separates this haute-cuisine bistro from its straightforward predecessors, and our bursting bellies are the proof of a winning formula.
