Hanging Garden

Montreal (Jun.19.07)

With Montreal’s unofficial moving day right around the corner, finding the best house warming gift was at the top of our list. (We also needed to make up for deciding to attend a private shoe sale instead of helping anyone out; friends are forever, but 50% off is 50% off). Flowerbox

The works-for-everyone solution: Galerie Flowerbox. Straight from France, these living pieces of hanging art provide a unique alternative to the overdone plant gift option. The wide selection of colourful boxes (ceramic, cardboard, aluminum, wood) and frames can hold one to four plants, and depending on the combination, range in price from $18 to $275.

We had a blast talking with owner and native Montrealer Simon Dauphin about his time in France and the ‘verticality’ concept he brought back to share with Canada. But the best part: Our creativity had a chance to shine. We decided that a tiny cactus in a white box and a vibrant orange frame would bring life and colour to our little sister’s first apartment. A selection of ferns and violets with an elegant dark wood box suited our BFF’s new loft.

And for our next visit? We think our house could use a little warming as well…
