It’s easy to purchase organic shampoos and conditioners for use in the home. But we hate knowing that many salons use cheap products that pollute the earth. Well, now we don’t have to forgo one of our favourite indulgences (OK, necessities).
Not just cutting hair, Aveda is reducing environmental damage and raising the beauty standard with yesterday’s official opening of the Aveda Lifestyle Salon Spa & Academy. This new Aveda flagship emporium offers hair, beauty and wellness services for the environmentally-savvy consumer. Renovations include eco-chic bamboo flooring and bright, spacious design (the darker, crowded feel of Tonic Salon is passé).
Signature holistic spa treatments like hair cuts, styling and highlights are on one floor, with massage, manicures and other goodies on another. It’s the little things that count and free makeup touch-ups and scalp massages are the perfect accompaniment to a relaxing day at the salon. And they use 90% organic essential oils in their products and 80% post-consumer recycled content in their packaging, so our guilt is gone.
During Earth Month (April), we can take the salon experience home via the lavender-scented “Light the Way” soy wax candle ($12), with 100% of the purchase price going to Global Greengrants Fund.
Now that’s putting the beau back in beauty.
